Aggravated Burglary at Ardee, Co Louth on the 14/3/12

The Gardaí at Ardee are investigating an aggravated burglary that occurred at a retired fisherman’s home in Ardee, Co Louth on Wednesday, the 14th March 2012 at approximately 9.40pm.


The retired fisherman had settled in for the night in front of the television, while having his dinner.  At approximately 9.40pm he thought he heard someone at the front door and went to open it.  Two raiders pushed the door open and shoved the man back knocking him to the floor.  The man tried to resist, but the raiders hit him about the head.  The raiders found a shotgun in the house and pointed it at the man demanding money.  They tried to handcuff his wrists but he struggled against them, and they gave up.  One of the raiders found the man’s wallet in his back pocked, there was a sizeable amount of money in it which they took.


Eventually the raiders ran out the front door when the man told them they had all his money. A neighbour heard the commotion and saw the raiders running down the alley way to the side of the house. 


Description of Raiders:


Raider 1: Five Foot Eight inches in height, medium build. Wearing a dark hoodie. Approximately 35 years old.

Raider 2: Five Foot Nine inches in height, with a stocky build, broad shoulders, navy blue hoodie with cream / white coloured strips on the back in a U shaped design. Approximately 35 years old.


Both raiders wore hoodies, with their hoods up, no masks. And they both wore gloves.


Appeal:

• Gardaí are appealing to anyone with any information that may assist with the identification of  the suspects

• The man’s wallet has not been recovered, it was a brown leather wallet over thirty years old.

• Any commercial institution and/or premises in the area that received large notes from a person in suspicious circumstances following the above incident.

• Did anyone observe a vehicle parked in the area at the back of Church View or the graveyard in Dromiskin?

• Did anyone at Clogherhead Harbour area observe anyone acting suspiciously on the morning of the 14th of March.

• Did anyone in Dromiskin Church View area observe anyone acting suspiciously on the evening of the 14th of March.

• The raiders stole the man’s shotgun, an over and under Larranaga shot gun.
