Garda Societies

coiste 5

An Garda Síochána actively encourages Garda personnel to take part in sporting and cultural activities. These activities promote physical and mental wellbeing and also instill a sense of belonging, camaraderie and team spirit. Sporting and cultural activities also offer a bridge between An Garda Síochána and the wider community.

Recent examples of this are the Garda Ladies Choir raising €1,500 for St. Vincent De Paul from a caroling session in the Square in Tallaght (December 2011), and the Late Night Dublin Soccer League (launched in November 2010) which aims to foster positive relationships between An Garda Síochána and young people.

There are numerous Garda societies and clubs which facilitate the pursuit of healthy leisure activities. These include the ladies' and mens' choirs, the Mountaineering and Canoe Club, GAA, rugby, soccer, fishing, bowls and tennis. Many of these groups are open to both Garda personnel and members of the public.
