Deception Investigation – Ballyfermot Garda Station

Gardaí at Ballyfermot station are investigating a case of deception where a woman was convinced to hand over her bank cards to someone she believed was a bank employee.

On 2nd September 2025, a woman received a text message that appeared to be from her bank, asking her to confirm if a payment on her account was genuine. When she replied no, she received a phone call from a person who claimed to be from her bank. While on the phone, a female called to the victim’s house claiming she was a bank employee.  She requested the victim’s sim card to her phone, her two bank cards and pins.

The cards were used on numerous occasions over the next few days.

One suspect used one of the woman’s cards at ATMs in Tallaght, Ballyfermot, Dun Laoghaire and the Naas Road in Dublin, as well as in Bray, Co. Wicklow.  Over the course of four days, he withdrew over €5,500.

A second suspect used the victim’s cards in shops, Swords, Fonthill and Carrickmines in Dublin and in Naas, Co. Kildare, spending over €3000.

Suspect 1

  • Late 20’s to early 30’s.
  • Black Hair and goatee
  • Approx. 5’10”
  • Slim build
  • Wearing tracksuit bottoms, Northface half zip top, black crocs.
  • Also on another date, seen wearing tracksuit bottoms, grey jumper, black Nike puffer jacket, and black crocs.

 

Suspect 2

  • Short fair/red hair
  • Early 20’s
  • Approx. 5’10”
  • Slim Build
  • Seen wearing a Tommy Hilfiger jacket in all footage, black tracksuit bottoms and black Nike runners.
