EU Presidency Events August 2026 -Traffic Information
Traffic restrictions and diversions for EU Presidency events will be kept to the minimum required and it is intended that any impact on the public be localised and minimal. We would ask members of the public to heed the advice and instructions of Gardaí and we thank them for their co-operation.
Dublin Castle
The Irish Presidency is primarily concentrated in Dublin Castle. A policing and security operation is currently in place at Dublin Castle and will remain in place for the duration of the Presidency.
The following roads are currently closed to both traffic and pedestrians as part of this operation and will remain closed until 31st December 2026:
- Castle Street
- Ship Street Little
- Ship Street Great
Local access is facilitated.
Informal meeting of EU Defence Ministers (FAC Defence)
- Date: 31 August-1 September 2026
- Location: Druids Glen, Co. Wicklow
Informal meetings of EU Defence Ministers (31 August & 1 September 2026) and EU Foreign Affairs Ministers (1 & 2 September 2026) will take place in Druids Glen, Co. Wicklow.
Events begin on the afternoon of Monday 31st August and continue until Wednesday afternoon 2nd September 2026. These meetings form part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The attendees will arrive at Dublin Airport during Monday 31st August and Tuesday 1st September 2026. Normal operations will continue at the airport at all times.
Traffic restrictions:
From Monday 31st August 2026 – Wednesday 2nd September roads adjacent to the Druids Glen Hotel and Golf Resort, including Woodstock Road, Creowen Road, Leabeg Lane, Kilmullin Lane, Kilquade Hill Road and the R772 (Killadrennan) will have traffic restrictions.
An Garda Síochána is facilitating access for local residents and businesses. An Garda Síochána has been in contact with affected premises.
There may be limited Garda motorcycle rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts in the area.
Members of the public are asked to comply with Gardaí on duty in the event of encountering any traffic restriction or temporary road closures.
