EU Presidency Events September 2026 -Traffic Information
Traffic restrictions and diversions for EU Presidency events will be kept to the minimum required and it is intended that any impact on the public be localised and minimal. We would ask members of the public to heed the advice and instructions of Gardaí and we thank them for their co-operation.
Dublin Castle
The Irish Presidency is primarily concentrated in Dublin Castle. A policing and security operation is currently in place at Dublin Castle and will remain in place for the duration of the Presidency.
The following roads are currently closed to both traffic and pedestrians as part of this operation and will remain closed until 31st December 2026:
- Castle Street
- Ship Street Little
- Ship Street Great
Local access is facilitated.
Informal Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers (Gymnich)

Informal meetings of EU Defence Ministers (31 August & 1 September 2026) and EU Foreign Affairs Ministers (1 & 2 September 2026) will take place in Druids Glen, Co. Wicklow.
Events begin on the afternoon of Monday 31st August and continue until Wednesday afternoon 2nd September 2026. These meetings form part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The attendees will arrive at Dublin Airport during Monday 31st August and Tuesday 1st September 2026. Normal operations will continue at the airport at all times.
Traffic restrictions:
From Monday 31st August 2026 – Wednesday 2nd September roads adjacent to the Druids Glen Hotel and Golf Resort, including Woodstock Road, Creowen Road, Leabeg Lane, Kilmullin Lane, Kilquade Hill Road and the R772 (Killadrennan) will have traffic restrictions.
An Garda Síochána is facilitating access for local residents and businesses. An Garda Síochána has been in contact with affected premises.
There may be limited Garda motorcycle rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts in the area.
Members of the public are asked to comply with Gardaí on duty in the event of encountering any traffic restriction or temporary road closures.
Informal meeting of European Affairs Ministers (General Affairs Council)

An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for European Affairs (General Affairs Council) is taking place over two days in Dublin Castle.
The event begins on Thursday morning, 3rd September and continues until Friday evening, 4th September. This meeting forms part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Attendees will arrive and depart through Dublin Airport on Thursday and Friday. Normal operations will continue at Dublin Airport at all times.
Formal and informal EU Presidency events will be concentrated at the following locations:

- The Chancery Hotel
- Radisson Blu Royal Hotel
- Trinity College Dublin

There will be localised, temporary traffic restrictions and Garda motorcycle, rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts between the hours of 2.45pm and 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon in the south city centre, in the vicinity of Dublin Castle
There will be intermittent, localised temporary traffic restrictions and Garda motorcycle rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts on Thursday evening between 5.30pm and 7.15pm, between the south city centre and Trinity College and Dublin Castle, Dublin 2.

There will be localised, temporary traffic restrictions and Garda motorcycle, rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts between the hours of 7.45am and 8.30am on Friday morning in the south city centre, in the vicinity of Dublin Castle.

An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for Agriculture is taking place over three days in Dublin and Co. Kildare.
The event begins on Sunday 6th and continues until Tuesday 8th, September 2026.
The attendees will arrive through Dublin Airport on Sunday 6th and depart on Tuesday 8th September 2026. Normal operations will continue at Dublin Airport at all times.

Intermittent localised temporary traffic restrictions and Garda motorcycle rolling road closures to facilitate security escorts between the hours of 8.30am and 10am and 4.45pm and 6pm on Monday between the Dublin 4 area and Celbridge, Co. Kildare.

An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for economic and financial affairs will take place on 18 and 19 September in Dublin.
Ireland’s Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris, TD will host the informal meeting of EU Economy and Finance Ministers in Dublin for a two-day programme of discussions on economic and financial policymaking. The Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, Gabriel Makhlouf, will also host EU Central Bank Governors in Dublin as part of the programme.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for an open exchange of views on key macroeconomic developments, financial stability, and strategic policy priorities facing the European Union, in an informal setting.

An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for energy will take place on 28 and 29 September in Dublin.
The informal meeting will bring together ministers responsible for energy policy from across the European Union, alongside representatives of the European Commission and invited partners.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for ministers to exchange views on strategic priorities relating to the energy transition and broader cooperation on energy policy.
The informal format of the meeting will facilitate strategic dialogue and policy reflection ahead of the formal meetings of the TTE Council (Energy) in October and December.
Informal meeting of Health Ministers

An informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for health will take place on 30 September and 1 October in Dublin.
The informal meeting will be chaired by Ireland’s Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, TD, and will convene health ministers from EU Member States and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) nations, along with the European Commissioner responsible for Health and Animal Welfare, the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe, and the head of the European Medicines Agency.
This meeting will provide a dedicated forum for ministers to have an open and forward-looking exchange on population health, innovation, life sciences and health competitiveness. Throughout the day, discussions will centre on how EU cooperation can reduce health inequalities, strengthen health systems, and enhance Europe’s position as a global leader in health and in the life sciences, while improving the health and wellbeing of people across the EU.
