Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau

The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB) is part of the Organised & Serious Crime (OSC) department of An Garda Síochána and is headed by a Detective Chief Superintendent.

The Bureau's central office is in OSC headquarters, Walter Scott House, Military Road, Dublin. GNCCB currently has regional offices in Cork City, Galway City, Mullingar, and Wexford,  which provide a local response to cyber incidents and supports to Garda colleagues and their investigations.

Originally established in 1991, the section was rebranded as The Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau (GNCCB) in 2017 with an expanded remit of providing a computer forensic service to all Garda members and units. This sees examiners within the Bureau carrying out forensically secure examinations of computer and mobile devices that have been seized during the course of any criminal investigations.

Another important role of the Bureau is the investigation of cyber dependent crimes that target significant or complex attacks on computer systems, corporate networks or critical national infrastructures.

The final part of the Bureau is the provision of cyber safety and prevention advice to all sectors of industry and the community on the current and emerging risks to online activity and personal or sensitive data. This comes from its liaison with law enforcement colleagues across the globe, academia and industry partners on ways to identify crime trends so that we can continue #KeepingPeopleSafe online.
