Office of the Garda Commissioner 

The general direction and control of An Garda Síochána is the responsibility of the Acting Garda Commissioner Dónall O'Cualáin. He is responsible to the Minister for Justice, Equality & Law Reform, who in turn is accountable to the Dáil (the Irish legislature) for the activities of the Service. The Commissioner’s Office is at Garda Headquarters. He is assisted by the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, and the Chief Administrative Officer. The Commissioner has a Private Secretary (Superintendent), together with an administrative staff.

Office of the Deputy Commissioner Policing & Security

The Deputy Commissioner in charge of Policing & Security is responsible for operational policing. Assistant Commissioners in charge of Security and Intelligence, Special Crime Operations, Roads Policing and Major Event Management, Community Engagement and Public Safety, and each of the 6 Regional Assistant Commissioners all report to the Deputy Commissioner for Policing & Security.

Office of the Deputy Commissioner Governance & Strategy

The Deputy Commissioner in charge of Governance & Strategy is responsible for strategy development and performance improvement subject to the Commissioner’s approval. The main function of this office include overseeing An Garda Síochána's corporate planning process, establishing change, leadership and training programmes and ensuring that strategy implementation is achieved in a co-ordinated and integrated fashion across the organisation. Assistant Commissioners in charge of Governance and Accountability, Strategy & Transformation, Legal and Compliance, and Executive Support & Corporate Services, the Head of Legal Affairs and the Head of the Internal Audit Section all report to the Deputy Commissioner for Governance & Strategy. 

 

Office of the Chief Administrative Officer

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for the Finance Directorate which includes the Garda Estate, Fleet Management, Procurement and Services, Information & Communications Technology, Recruitment & Probationer Management, Performance Management, Human Resource Policy & Programmes, and the Occupational Health Department. The Executive Directors of ICT, Finance and Human Resources and People Development report to the CAO.
