Finance and Services

The overall goal of Finance & Services is aimed at delivering a professional service that supports the strategic goals of An Garda Síochána. The objective of the strategy is to enhance the organisation’s performance and accountability systems and to harness technology and information to generate efficiencies in the delivery of an effective policing service.

The strategy also aims to reduce the organisation’s cost base through targeted cost saving initiatives and public procurement while developing the knowledge and skills of staff to ensure that the strategic objectives are achieved.

Responsibility for day-to-day management of expenditure of the Garda Vote transferred to the Garda Commissioner in July 2006, when the Commissioner was appointed as the Accounting Officer for the Garda Vote/Budget which amounts to €1.5 billion for 2018.

Finance & Services has the responsibility for the financial management of the Garda Vote as well as providing strategic and operational support and advice at all levels in An Garda Síochána. It provides Garda management with financial information to assist with decision making and the delivery of improved services and value for money throughout the organisation.
