Traffic alert as the snow begins to thaw - 10/12/10

Gardai are warning road users and pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads and footpaths over the next number of days.

As the ice and snow that remains on some roads and paths thaws,  it will lead to dangerous conditions in those areas.  Motorists are asked to keep speeds down and pedestrians are asked to take care if out and about and wear  hi-vis clothing, and not to walk on the road if there is a footpath available.

Assistant Commissioner John Twomey will be available for interview after 4 p.m. today the 10th of December.   Forward any requests by e-mail to pressoffice@garda.ie. providing telephone contact numbers.
