Press Release sent on behalf of the P.S.N.I. - Theft of equipment

Detectives in the Police Service of Northern Ireland are investigating the theft of the following equipment from a yard on Bay Road in Derry sometime between 5pm and 7pm on Saturday (11th December 2010).

One line of enquiry being followed is that this equipment may have been taken over the border into the Republic of Ireland.


A pale blue Mercedes box van with the word 'OMEGA' still visible under the paint on both sides, registration, R560 VMJ

A 15 ft IFOR WILLIAMS aluminium trailer.

An orange 3 tonne HITACHI mini digger (back hood has several dents).

A yellow 'BOMAG' trench rammer.

A green WHACKER trench rammer.

Two red/orange HUSQVARNA concrete saws.

A DIGI TRAC Eclipse tracing system, consisting of two beige monitors.

A drill head (belonging to the above system).

A cable avoidance tool.

A FUSION welding box, yellow with a blue frame.

A RYOBI drill.

A BOSCH drill.

A white and yellow works tent.

A CANON digital camera.

Assorted small tools including socket sets, spanners, spanners and grinders.

A selection of WAVIN and FUSEMATIC water fittings, used to repair water mains and a selection of gas fittings, used to connect and repair gas pipes.

Two silver boxed pipe scrapers.

Two breathing apparatus systems.


All of the above items are used to lay/find/repair gas pipes.


Anyone with information regarding the incident or the current whereabouts of the van, trailer and equipment is asked to contact detectives at Strand Road police station on 0845 600 8000.
