Garda safety message - 2/12/10

Gardai are asking motorists to give priority to road gritting equipment and public transport particularly the Lúas.

Public transport should be used where possible.

Motorists are asked not make unnecessary journeys.

Please comply with traffic lights and signs and avoid blocking junctions.

Drivers should be conscious of the safety of pedestrians.

Pedestrians should avoid walking on the road and wear hi-vis jackets.

Current indications are that a thaw will take place in the middle of next week; this may create further difficult driving conditions.  We are asking road user to be conscious of this when making journeys.

We would ask people to keep in contact with neighbours, particularly those living alone, to call around and check on them and to not assume that someone else will do so.
