Fatalities in Co. Louth collision named

Gardai from Dunleer, Co. Louth investigating the single vehicle road traffic collision that occured yesterday afternoon 18th December, 2010 at Cangy, Dunleer have named the mother and her son that were killed in the collision, as Leontina Covaci (35 years) and Ezacheal Covaci (9 years) of Rivervale Grove, Dunleer, Co. Louth.

The two other children travelling in the car have been transferred to Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin (9 years) and Temple Street Childrens Hospital (3 years). The male driver has been discharged from hospital.

14.45Hrs   19th December, 2010.

Gardai are investigating a single vehicle collision at approximately 2.30pm on the 18th December at Cangy, Dunleer, Co.Louth, on the old M1, south of Castlebellingham. It is believed the car struck a wall.

A 35 year old woman who was a front seat passenger, and her 10 year old son died as a result of the collision.

The woman's husband, believed to be in his 30s was driving the car.  This man as well as two other children, a 4 year old daughter of the couple, and an unrelated 11 year old girl, were taken  to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. The 11 year old female passenger is believed to be in a critical condition.

The road at the scene of the crash is closed pending an exanination of the area by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
