Update (1): GNECB Investigation into International Invoice Redirect Fraud, 15th April 2021

A fifth (5) person has been arrested as part of Operation Boxplot by Gardaí from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB). A male (20s) was arrested in Co Westmeath earlier today for an offence pursuant to Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. He is currently detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007 in Castlerea Garda Station. He can be detained for up to seven days.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
To date, 5 persons have been arrested under Operation BOXPLOT.

Arrests: GNECB Investigation into International Invoice Redirect Fraud, 15th April 2021

Gardaí attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) have arrested four (4) men, this morning Thursday 15th April, 2021.

A number of planned searches were carried out in Cork, Tipperary and Roscommon today. Four men (ranging in age from 23 years to 35 years) were arrested for offences pursuant to Section 72, Criminal Justice Act, 2006.

They are currently detained at Middleton, Fermoy, Mallow and Tipperary Garda stations under Section 50, Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

Three of the arrests this morning were made under Operation BOXPLOT, which targets a Criminal Organisation based in the North Cork area, that is believed to be laundering the proceeds of international invoice re-direct (BEC) fraud through bank accounts in Ireland.

The fourth man was arrested under Operation SKEIN, which targets a Criminal Organisation based in Ireland involved in similar international, criminal activity.

To date, 17 people have now been arrested as part of Operation SKEIN and 4 persons arrested under Operation BOXPLOT.
 
Investigations are ongoing.
