Witness Appeal - Fatal shooting incident Dublin 4th May 2014

At approximately 2.55pm today Gardai received a 999 call about a shooting incident on Cooley Road, Drimnagh. On arrival at the scene Gardai discovered a 39 year old male in the front garden of a house with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to the City Morgue.

Shortly after the shooting Gardai received a report of a Nissan Qashqai on fire at Benmadigan Rd a short distance away from the shooting. Both scenes have been preserved for a technical examination.

 

A post mortem is scheduled to be conducted by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr Bolster tomorrow.

 

Gardai will not be naming the deceased at this stage until all relatives have been informed. A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and is communicating with the family of the deceased.

 

Gardai based at Sundrive Road have set up an incident room to investigate all the circumstances of this shooting.

 

Gardai wish to appeal to any person who was on Cooley Road between 2.30pm and 3.30pm and may have seen anything unusual, suspicious or the shooting itself to contact them. In addition anyone who may have seen the Nissan Qashqui drive into Benmadigan Road where it was then set on fire is asked to contact the incident room at Sundrive Road Garda Station on 01-6666600, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
