Contamination of pork product which occurred in 2008 - Arrest

As part of the Garda investigation into the contamination of pork product which occurred in 2008, detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation have this morning (12/1/11) arrested one man aged his 50's.

The man was arrested in the Monaghan area.
 

He is currently detained at Monaghan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
 

Gardaí have also been liaising with colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland who are investigating offences under the 2006 Fraud Act and they have made four arrests this morning.

Note:

In late 2008 a Garda investigation commenced into the contamination of pork product which had resulted in the slaughter of animals, destruction of animal feed and recall of pork products and significant financial loss to the industry. This investigation has now entered a separate but linked phase with the involvement of the Police Service of Northern Ireland which is investigating offences in Northern Ireland under the 2006 Fraud Act.
