Robbery at Off Licence on Botanic Road, Dublin on the 22/11/10

Gardaí at Mounjoy are investigating an attempted robbery which occurred at an Off Licence on Botanic Road at approximately 9pm last night (22/11/10). Gardaí responded to an alarm call and on arrival at the scene two males wearing balaclavas were inside the premises along with the owner of the premises.

The front door of the premises was locked from the inside and one of the males was armed with a hammer. Gardai entered the shop and were attacked by one of these men who attempted to hit the Garda with a hammer.


The owner of the shop was assaulted during the incident and received minor injuries.


Both males ran towards the store room and Garda assistance was called for.  The men exited the shop through a rear exit and were arrested a short time later in the area.


Both men (45yrs and 25yrs) are detained at Mountjoy and Store Street Garda Station under Section 4 Criminal Justice Act.


Investigations are continuing.
