Foiled ATM robbery at Castleisland, Kerry on the 13/11/2010 - Update

The man detained in Tralee was released without charge in the early hours of this morning. A file will be prepared and forwarded to The Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 2 men in their 20's who were detained in Killarney have been charged and will appear before a special sitting of Killorglin District Court today, the 14/11/10 at 4pm.

Gardaí from Castleisland have arrested three men following the attempted robbery of an ATM from a bank in Castleisland, Co. Kerry on the 13/11/10.

At approximately 5am this morning (13/11/10) Gardaí from Castleisland were alerted to an incident on Main Street, Castleisland.  When Gardaí arrived at the scene a number of men were attempting to take the ATM from the wall of a bank using heavy machinery. Two men fled the scene in a van which attempted to ram the Garda Patrol car. The men abandoned the van approximately 10km outside Castleisland and were pursued on foot by Gardaí who succeeded in arresting two men. (Both in their 20's)

The two men are detained at Killarney Garda Station under Section 4 (Criminal Justice Act).  In a follow-up operation a third man was arrested in connection with this incident in Listowel, Co. Kerry he is currently detained at Tralee Garda Station under (Section 4 Criminal Justice Act).  During the course of this operation Gardaí also recovered heavy machinery.

Extensive damage has been caused to the bank on Main Street Castleisland. The scene will be technically examined by Gardaí this morning, the 13/11/10.

Investigations are continuing.
