Static Safety Camera Operational on the N80 from Friday, 23 May 2025

The Static Safety Camera in place on the N80, Carlow will commence operation from Friday, 23 May 2025.

Vehicles detected driving in excess of the posted speed limit will be subject to prosecution from 12 midday Friday, 23 May 2025.

Prosecution of speeding offences takes place by Fixed Charge Notice (FCN). The current Fixed Charge Notice is a €160 fine accompanied by 3 penalty points.

Static safety cameras have been proven internationally to reduce speeding. Static safety cameras are now operational on the N17 Mayo, N59 Galway, N13 Donegal, N69 Limerick, R772 Wexford and the N22 Cork.

First introduced in the Dublin Port Tunnel and on the M7, five Average Safety Cameras are also operational which includes the N3 Cavan, N5 Mayo and N2 Meath.

There are also 58 GoSafe mobile safety cameras operational across 1,500 locations as well as safety cameras operated by Gardaí.
