Open Competition for Appointment to the position of Head of Internal Audit (Principal Officer) in An Garda Síochána

The mission of Garda Internal Audit Section (GIAS) is to have in place best practice internal financial control, internal audit and risk management strategies in support of the objectives of An Garda Síochána and of the Commissioner as Accounting Officer.

Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Garda Commissioner, the Head of Internal Audit is a key senior manager, who will also liaise closely with the Audit and Risk Committee.

The selected candidate will play a key role in corporate governance leadership and will have the opportunity to further develop and enhance corporate assurance systems and processes.  The role extends to assisting and advising the Garda Commissioner in protecting the assets of a critical public body in the State by ensuring internal controls are appropriately designed, operate effectively and are aligned with Garda Síochána objectives and business plans. The role provides the opportunity to quality assure the efficiency and effectiveness of internal process and by extension allow An Garda Síochána achieve its mission of ‘Keeping People Safe’. The Head of Internal Audit is also the ‘Audit Authority’ in respect of EU/Internal Security funding in respect of An Garda Síochána.
