New Troubles Legacy Liaison Unit Established
A new Troubles Legacy Liaison Unit has been established in An Garda Síochána.
This unit arises from the Joint Framework on the Legacy of the Troubles, which was announced on 19 September 2025 by Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Simon Harris, and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Hilary Benn.
The Troubles Legacy Liaison Unit acts as a single point of contact for co-operation with the UK authorities, under the Joint Framework agreement, on Troubles-related cases.
It is also the central point of contact and co-ordination for victims and families in relation to Troubles-related investigations undertaken by An Garda Síochána.
The Unit will endeavour to answer questions that victims or family members may have in relation to An Garda Síochána of Troubles-related investigations. Where possible, a family report may be provided to the family.
The Troubles Legacy Liaison Unit will liaise with Divisional level investigators nationwide in respect of Troubles-related investigations conducted by An Garda Síochána.
The unit is based at Walter Scott House on Military Road, Dublin 8. It is headed by a Detective Chief Superintendent, who reports into the Assistant Commissioner, Garda Crime & Security Intelligence Service.
