Background:
Declan O’ Connor, born on 3rd April, 1959, came from Arus Mhuire, Balheary, Swords, Co. Dublin. Formerly a member of the Irish Army before joining An Garda Síochána on 29th November, 1978, he also served in the F.C.A. He was single. Garda O’Connor served previously at Carrickmacross Garda Station. His pastimes included Gaelic football and reading. 

Circumstances:

On Tuesday, 17th May, 1983, Garda Declan O’Connor was on motor-cycle duty travelling with a dispatch from Ballymun Garda Station to Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park. At 1.15 pm, as he was travelling along Ballygall Road East, his motor-cycle skidded and he was thrown to the ground. He sustained serious injuries. Garda O’Connor died on Friday 10th June, 1983
