Background:
Richard Nolan, born on 24th January, 1957, came from Carrigslaney, Kilbride, Co. Carlow. Having previously worked as a sales representative he joined An Garda Síochána on 7th June, 1978. He was married with three children, one of whom is a Garda. Garda Nolan also served at Newtownmountkennedy, Howth and Duncannon. His pastimes included Gaelic football, hurling and growing Christmas trees.

Circumstances:

At 1.20 am on Sunday, 26th September, 1999, Garda Richard Nolan and Garda Ambrose Fogarty were the crew of the Enniscorthy patrol car that responded to a call to assist Gardai from Gorey in dealing with a serious row outside a night club in the village of Camolin, Co. Wexford. When the patrol car was at Bishopswell, Enniscorthy it was involved in a collision.  Garda Nolan was killed instantly.
