Background:
Thomas Lawn, son of Edward and Marie Lawn, was born on 9th March, 1956, in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal. He joined An Garda Síochána on 15th February, 1978. On completion of training he was allocated to Westport Garda Station, Co. Mayo on 21st July, 1978. Appointed to the Detective Branch on 16th April, 1982, he also served at Killeshandra and Dublin Castle. Detective Garda Lawn was single. He took a keen interest in GAA, Badminton, Soccer and Athletics.

Circumstances:

On 27th April, 1983, Detective Garda Lawn was on duty, as an observer, in an official unmarked patrol car which was involved in a collision at Griffith Avenue, Clontarf, Dublin. Detective Garda Lawn was fatally injured.
