Pearse Street Assault on the 21/11/11 - Further Update

The man arrested in relation to this investigation has been released without charge.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions and forwarded on its completion.

A man aged in his 20's has been arrested by Gardai investigating a serious assault on a 41 year man at Pearse Street, on the 21st November 2011.

He was arrested in the south inner city area yesterday evening and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Pearse Street Garda Station.

Gardaí are investigating a serious assault that occurred on Pearse Street at approximately 12.20am this morning, Monday 21st November 2011.

Near the junction of Erne Street a 41 year old male taxi driver was attacked by a lone male who left the scene and walked in the direction of Erne Street.

The taxi driver was taken to James’s Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

No arrests have been made and investigations are underway.

A scene was preserved on Pearse Street and the bus lane was closed off but it has since re-opened.
