Theft of dangerous drugs in Dublin on the 28-29/9/10

Gardai at Mountjoy Garda Station are investigating the theft of drugs used to revive patients suffering cardiac arrest.

The drugs were taken during a burglary at the Mater Hospital between the 28th and 29th September 2010.

The drugs were contained in five clear vials.  Two of the vials are branded 'Atropine' and three of the vials are branded 'Lidocaine'.  The vials can be attached to syringes for injection.  The vials themselves were not attached to any syringe and were packaged in white medical boxes with a description of the drugs on the outside.

There is a serious risk if these drugs are injected by any person not suffering from the cardiac condition for which they are intended. Medical staff have indicated that the consequences of misuse could be fatal.
