Investigation into death of a male in Naas, Kildare on the 12/2/10 - Witness appeal

Gardai at Naas are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Tomas Sokelis, 29 years, who is a Lithuanian National. He was admitted to Naas General Hospital on the morning of 12/2/10 where he was pronounced dead.

Gardai have interviewed a number of people who have assisted them with this investigation. They have also carried out house to house enquiries and viewed CCTV footage during the course of the investigation.

Investigating Gardai have established that the deceased was in vicinity of Basin Street, Naas, Co. Kildare on Thursday 11/2/10 between 8.15pm and 9pm.

He was in the company of two other young men, also Lithuanian Nationals. The deceased and his two friends travelled to Basin Street in a white Ford Transit Van.

At this stage in the investigation Gardai believe the deceased man may have been in an argument with his companions.  It is believed that he fell and received serious injuries to his head. A Post Mortem has been carried out.

Gardai at Naas Garda Station wish to appeal to anybody that was in the Basin Street or Waterfront Apartments in Naas on Thursday, the 11/2/10 between 8.10pm and 10pm to contact them with any information that might assist this investigation.

The Gardai are also aware that two men spoke to the two males that were with the deceased after he had fallen to the ground.  These witnesses spoke in English to these men and Gardai want these men, in particular, to contact them at Naas Garda Station.  Gardai wish to stress that these two men had no part in the altercation but are anxious to talk with them as they may be able to provide valuable assistance in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Naas Garda Station, telephone number: 045-884300 and 045-884325, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
