You do not have to give a reason as to why you want to see any record

An Garda Síochána will provide you with an explanation if you are not given what you ask for. A decision on your application must normally be made within 4 weeks. A “week” is defined by the FOI Act as a period of 5 consecutive week-days and, in determining such a period, a Saturday or a public holiday (within the meaning of the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997) shall be disregarded. However this time limit can be extended by a further 4 weeks in circumstances where the request is voluminous in nature.

All our responses will be published in our decision log section of our publication scheme to make them available to everyone so check it out. If you want information under Freedom of Information about a certain topic you can also use the search engine above.

Under the Act, An Garda Síochána makes information available through the implementation of two key tools:

    (i) A Publication Scheme

    (ii) And a general right of access to request information.

If you do not find the information you are looking for in our publication scheme, you can make a request for information in two ways;

    (i) Send your request by email to:

             foi@garda.ie

             Or:
