    Yes. It is advisable to enclose a copy of your driving licence as it assists with the processing of your payment.

    In the case of the holder of a non-Irish driving licence, your payment cannot be processed without providing a copy of your driving licence to our payment agents.

    You must complete each part of the declaration section in order for payment to be accepted.

    · Driver number on licence/permit –  On paper licences, the number required here is the number in BLACK print on the first page of the licence to the left of the photo.  On plastic card licences/permits, the driver number required is at 4d.

    · Name - As in licence/permit - You must complete this section exactly as per your driving licence. For example if the licence states John Patrick Smith and the notice states John Smith then you must fill in John Patrick Smith in this section. This is to ensure that the penalty points are applied to the correct driving licence file. Payment will not be accepted if this section is completed incorrectly.

    · Signature on Declaration - By signing the Declaration you are accepting that you committed the offence. The only signature acceptable on the declaration is that of the person to whom the notice is addressed. Under no circumstances can any other person sign the form on behalf of the driver/payee. Where a person is outside the jurisdiction or not immediately available you should contact the Fixed Charge Processing Office, 0818 50 60 80 or +353 504 59800, for further information.

    To find out how many penalty points are on your driving licence record, contact the Road Safety Authority at 0818 41 61 41, quoting your driver number.

    The commencement date of the points is 28 days from the date of notification from the Road Safety Authority.  Further information can be obtained from the Road Safety Authority website

    The legislation does not allow for payment after the 56 days period has passed.  After this time a summons will issue automatically.  The process cannot be interrupted.  You will be entitled to outline your circumstances to the Court on the date of your hearing.

    The legal responsibility for identifying the driver rests with the registered owner. The notice will remain in the name of the registered owner unless the driver is nominated to the Fixed Charge Processing Office (on the notice) within 28 days.

    If you have been nominated by a company incorrectly you must complete the FCN Cancellation Form and submit this together with a letter from the Registered Owner of the vehicle stating that you were nominated incorrectly.  This letter must also state who was driving at the time of the detection took place.

    The legislation does not allow for payment after the 56 day period has passed. After this time a summons will issue automatically. This process cannot be interrupted.

    • If the notice was for an offence that does not have penalty points, then you can contact the Fixed Charge Processing Office by calling 0818 30 40 60 or by email to npo@garda.ie. You will be given a reference number and transaction code which you can use to pay the charge in the usual manner


    • If the notice is for an offence that does have penalty points you need to get a copy of the notice in order to make payment. You can contact the Fixed Charge Processing Office by calling 0818 50 60 80 or by email to npo@garda.ie and a copy will be sent to you by post. Please note that the original timeframes for payment still stand. It can take up to 5 working days to re-print. You should give the operator your vehicle registration number when you call  

    You must complete the FCN Cancellation Form, and send this together with a copy of a Medical Certificate of Exemption from Compulsory Safety Belt Wearing (designated form) as prescribed by the European Communities (Compulsory use of Safety Belts and Child Restraint Systems in Motor Vehicles) Regulation 2006 (Statute 240/2006) and a copy of the fixed charge notice to the Fixed Charge Processing Office, Parnell Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, E41 WV84 or by email to npo@garda.ie for consideration.

    You must complete the FCN Cancellation Form, and send this together with a copy of the permit (back and front) and a copy of the Fixed Charge Notice to the Fixed Charge Processing Office, Parnell Street, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, E41 WV84 for consideration.

    • If you have received a summons to appear in court and think you have paid the fine, then please contact the Fixed Charge Processing Office at 0818 50 60 80.  Have your reference number or vehicle registration number to hand when calling


    • Please also note that where a payment has been finalised, summons will still issue if driving licence and/or insurance production requests are not complied with, or in respect of other non-fixed charge offences detected at the same time

    If you no longer own the vehicle you must provide proof of this. This can be obtained from your local Motor Tax Office or the Driver and Vehicle Computer Services Division, Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in Shannon at 0818 411 412.

    · The Statement of Nomination of Name and Address of Driver section (see reverse of notice) must be completed by the owner of the vehicle with the name and address of the driver of the vehicle on the date of the offence. The completed notice should be returned to the Fixed Charge Processing Office within 28 days of the date of the notice.     • If you have received a notice for an offence that has penalty points and in a company name, then you must nominate a specific driver for the offence. The Statement of Nomination of Name and Address of Driver section (on the reverse of the notice) must be completed and signed by the company (a company stamp will not be accepted) with the name and address of the driver of the vehicle on the date of the offence. The completed notice should be returned to the Fixed Charge Processing Office within 28 days of the date of the notice. No payment should be returned at this time as a new notice will be issued to the driver. It is the responsibility of the company, not the driver, to complete the Fixed Charge Notice.

    If the payment was received after the initial 28 day period our payment agents, An Post, are legally prohibited from accepting the lower amount.  Under the payment card section of the Notice it clearly states "where the initial 28 days have elapsed on receipt of your payment, the increased fine will be charged to your card"

    There are a number of reasons why a payment can be rejected. This will be outlined on the rejection letter which you will have received.  You will have to rectify the problem and re-submit the notice/payment.

    • The Statement of Nomination of Name and Address of Driver (on reverse of notice) must be completed by the owner of the vehicle with the name and address of the driver of the vehicle on the date of the offence. The completed notice should be returned to the Fixed Charge Processing Office within 28 days of the date of the notice.     • By telephone - All charges that do not have penalty points can be paid by telephone using laser or credit cards.  Debit cards issued by banks outside of Ireland are not accepted. (Lo-Call 0818 50 60 80 +353 504 59800 if calling from outside of Ireland)

    • In person - all charges can be paid in the Post Office. You can pay by cash, cheque, bank draft or laser card. Cheques should be made payable to An Post. 

    • By Post - You can pay by cheque. postal order, bank draft, laser or credit card. Debit cards issued by banks outside of Ireland are not accepted. Please note that only one cheque for the full amount can be accepted. A combination of payments cannot be accepted e.g. cheque and cash together. Cheques should be made payable to "Member in Charge". It is not advisable to send cash by post.

    • Please note that Day 1 is the date printed under the reference number on the Fixed Charge Notice and not the date of offence. Day 28 and Day 56 are also clearly marked in bold on the top left hand side of the form. 

    • When paying by card, the transaction will show as "An Post - Billpost" on the bank/credit card statement.

    In the case of the holder of a non-irish driving licence, your payment cannot be processed without also providing a copy of your driving licence to our payment agents.

    After payment for a Penalty Point offence, a letter of "Notification of the allocation of Penalty Points" will then be issued by post from the Road Safety Authority confirming the allocation of penalty points on a person's driving licence record. In order for this to proceed your driving licence number must be provided. We cannot accept payment without this number.
