Operation Twin Tracks day of action to prevent and detect anti-social behaviour on public transport, 6th May 2026

Issue Date: 06/05/2026

  • Community Engagement and Rail Safety Partnership Day of Operation for the prevention and detection of anti-social behaviour on DART, Luas and Rail Routes 2026

An Garda Síochána in partnership with Iarnród Éireann, Transdev Ireland (Luas) operators and the National Transport Authority (NTA) are conducting a national day of engagement as part of Operation Twin Tracks.

Operation Twin Tracks is an ongoing initiative which aims to prevent and detect anti-social behaviour on board public transport rail services. The national day of engagement for this year will take place today, 6th May 2026.

An Garda Síochána will initiate this National Community Engagement and Rail Safety Partnership Day of Engagement in partnership with Iarnród Éireann (DART, Commuter and InterCity rail), Luas and the NTA.

The objectives of this initiative are:

  • To ensure public safety by addressing anti-social behaviour
  • Protecting life and property
  • To engage with the public and provide crime prevention advice
  • To support Iarnród Éireann and Luas personnel in tackling these issues
  • Vindicating the human rights of each individual
  • Preventing crime, bringing criminals to justice, through the detection and investigation of crime, and;
  • Improving rail safety

Chief Superintendent Jane Humphries, Garda National Community Engagement Bureau said, "An Garda Síochána, as part of Operation Twin Tracks, encourages and supports this ongoing opportunity to engage positively with the users of public transport, Iarnród Éireann, LUAS and the NTA. This engagement day affords An Garda Síochána the opportunity to maintain a visible presence on board these services while encouraging security and safety on board while preventing and detecting anti-social behaviour.”

The two primary elements of the plan are Community Engagement and Rail Safety, which will be achieved by high visibility public engagement and delivery of crime prevention advice. High visibility patrolling will concentrate on rail and light rail transport within the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) and on intercity routes nationwide.

Personal Safety and crime prevention delivery will involve public engagement by all personnel involved and Community Engagement stands based at intercity routes and Dublin city stations. Local Community Policing members, supported by Crime Prevention Officers, will operate these Community Engagement stands at Connolly and Heuston stations and at various hubs across the regions.

LUAS Red and Green Line and DART and Commuter services in Dublin will be patrolled as well as Intercity routes;

The intercity routes are:

• Mayo/Roscommon/Longford Division

o incorporating Ballyhaunis, Claremorris, Manulla Junction, Foxford, Ballina, Castlebar and Westport Stations.
