Day of Action Targeting the Activity of a Suspected Organised Crime Gang, North Western Region, 11th May 2026

Issue Date: 11/05/2026

This morning, Monday 11th May 2026, more than 100 Gardaí conducted a search operation in Co. Donegal, Co. Sligo and Co. Monaghan – and in Co. Tyrone in conjunction with our PSNI colleagues – as part of an investigation into  an Organised Crime Group (OCG) suspected of being involved in drug dealing and money laundering offences.

The searches were conducted at 15 residential addresses in Co. Donegal (East Donegal and Letterkenny); four in the Sligo Town area, one in Monaghan and one in Co. Laois.

A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested in Co. Donegal and is currently being detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Searches were also conducted in Co. Tyrone by our colleagues in the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Led by Detectives from the Donegal Division, this operation was supported by the Garda National Drug and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), the Armed Support Unit (ASU), the Garda Dog Unit and detectives from Sligo and Monaghan.

More than €26,000 in cash, £12,000 in sterling and quantities on cocaine, cannabis and tablets – with an estimated street value of €40,000 – were seized by Gardaí, as well as mobile phones and other electronic devices.

Investigations are ongoing.
