28/05/2026 Update (1): Fatal Incident, Galway Road, Clifden, Co. Galway - 28th May 2026

An Garda Síochána continue to investigate all the circumstances of a fatal incident today Thursday 28th May 2026 near Galway Road, Clifden, Co. Galway.

The body of the woman (aged in her 30’s) has been conveyed to the mortuary in Galway University Hospital for post-mortem examination tomorrow morning, Friday 29th May 2026.

The results of the post-mortem examination will assist in determining the course of the ongoing investigation.

A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned.

The adult male (aged in his 30s), arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, continues to receive medical treatment.

No further information is available at this time.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone in the Clifden area – in particular, Galway Road – between 2:00pm on Wednesday 27th May and 9:00am on Thursday 28th May 2026,  who may have noticed anything suspicious is asked to come forward.

Road users and those with camera footage, (including home security and dash-cam), in the area at the time, are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
