Robberies and Arrest, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, 12th April 2026

Gardaí arrested a man following two robberies at business premises in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath that occurred on Sunday, 12th April 2026.

Gardaí were alerted to a robbery at a business premises on Castle Street at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon. During the course of the incident a male suspect threatened staff with an implement. No items were taken.

A second report of robbery was received by Gardaí a short time later at a business premises on Canal Court. The male suspect assaulted a member of staff and damaged property on the premises. A sum of cash was also stolen.

Following enquiries by Gardaí on patrol in the area, a man (aged in his 30s) was arrested a short distance away. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Co. Westmeath.

The stolen cash was recovered by Gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
