Court Appearance – Assault on Gardaí and Ramming of Garda Patrol Car, Co. Monaghan – Thursday 16th April 2026

An Garda Síochána are continuing to investigate a series of violent incidents that occurred in County Monaghan on Thursday, 16th April 2026.

A male in his 20s, arrested in connection with the incidents, has now been charged. He is expected to appear before a special sitting of Trim District Court at 3pm on Saturday, 18th April 2026.

During the course of the incident, a female Garda sustained injuries and remains under care at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. A male Garda, who was also injured, has been discharged from hospital to continue his recovery.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for information regarding a dark grey Audi A6 with northern registration plates. Anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the vicinity of the R184, between Ballybay and Clontibret or surrounding roads, or any driver in that area between 11am and 2pm with dashcam or other video footage, is asked to contact Gardaí.
