Arrest - Death of Joseph Deacy in Swinford,Mayo in August 2017

Gardaí investigating the death of Joseph Deacy in Swinford Co Mayo on the 12th August 2017 have this morning (29/5/18) arrested a man in his 20s in connection with this investigation, the man was arrested in Co Mayo. He is currently detained at Claremorris Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4- Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following an incident at Swinford, Co. Mayo on Saturday 12th August.  
   
A 21-year-old man (not 31 as previously stated), Joseph Deacy of St. Albans in England, was discovered outside a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford with apparent head injuries. The alarm was raised by a passer-by at approximately 6.00am, Gardaí and Emergency Services attended the scene. The man was taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital and later removed to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Sunday evening, 13th August 2017.  
   
A post-mortem examination was carried out by the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy and the death is being treated as a homicide.  

A forensic examination of the scene has been carried out and an incident room has been established at Claremorris Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed in the case.
