Fatal House Fire Macroom 2nd May 2016

Two men have died following a house fire in Macroom in Co.Cork. Gardaí and fire services attended the scene of a house fire in St Coleman's Park, Macroom, at 4am this morning the 2nd of May 2016.


A woman who has jumped from an upstairs window was removed to Cork University Hospital (CUH), her injuries are not thought to be life threatening. A man believed to be a neighbour, who had tried to get into the burning house was also removed to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

The fire was brought under control and the bodies of two men, one in his 60s and the other in his 20s, were discovered in the house. They were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies have been removes to CUH where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

The scene is sealed off and a technical examination of the area, which will take place later today. Early indications are that the fire started accidently.
