Arrests - Robbery at a Service Station in Rathcoole, Dublin on the 22/6/16

At 4.03pm on the 22nd June 2016 Gardaí in Clondalkin received a call that there was a robbery in progress at a Service Station on the Naas Road, Rathcoole, Co Dublin.

A number of units responded to the scene and two males (26 & 36 years) were arrested and were detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended. Both have been charged and will appear before Blanchardstown District Court at 10.30am on the 23rd June 2016.

The incident occurred at approx. 4pm when two males entered the service station with their faces covered. They were in possession of a knife and threatened staff and demanded money, the till drawer and cash were taken. As they came out of the shop to a waiting car been driven by a third male, they were approached by two off duty Gardaí who identified themselves. Both Gardaí were threatened with knives, one suspect fled the scene and the second suspect was tackled by the off duty Garda, the off duty Garda received a cut to his arm, the suspect then jumped into the waiting car. The two off duty Gardaí were in a position to stop the car from fleeing the scene until local Gardaí attended the scene and arrested both suspects.

The injured Garda did not need hospital treatment but was treated locally. No one else was injured in the incident.
