Abnormal Load Charleville to Limerick 7th to 15th May 2014

An Garda Síochána wish to advise road users that over the coming weeks, beginning next Wednesday 7th May, it is anticipated that delays will occur along the N20 between Charleville, Co. Cork and Limerick City, and along the N69 from Limerick City to Foynes, Co. Limerick. This is due to the transportation of abnormal loads from Charleville to Foynes along these routes.

Road users are advised that delays will occur along this route from 10am to 5pm on Wednesday, 7th May; Friday, 9th May; Tuesday, 13th May, & Thursday, 15th May, and are requesting that all road users exercise caution and patience when travelling along the planned route when the convoys are present.

The abnormal loads being transported are significantly higher and wider than normal loads, and we wish to advise road users that due to the width of the loads, they will extend approximately 2 feet beyond the width of standard HGV trailers. Members of the Garda Síochána will be escorting these loads while they are travelling on public roads, and we are advising road users, if possible, to avoid travelling along this route while the convoys are present, or alternatively travel along this route prior to 10am and after 5pm on the relevant days. If it is necessary for you to travel along this route on the specified days, then we would advise you to allow additional time for your journey.

Due to the characteristics of the roads and the abnormal loads, overtaking the convoys by following traffic will not be possible or permitted, except on wide sections of the road when the Gardaí will signal to following traffic that it is safe to overtake. In addition, road users can expect Gardaí travelling in front of the convoys to either direct them as far onto the left hand side of the road as is possible, or direct them to stop while the convoy passes against them.
