Operation Muster update 6th March 2014

Gardaí investigating organised criminal activity in the South Eastern Region have charged four males.

One male was charged yesterday morning, 5th March 2014 and appeared before Clonmel District Court where he entered a guilty plea and received a 22 month custodial sentence. Three further males were charged yesterday evening and released on bail to appear before Kilkenny & Clonmel District Courts on the following dates;

11th March 2014, 27th March 2014 (Kilkenny) & 1st April 2014 (Clonmel)

In total 12 people were arrested and detained at various Garda stations throughout the region. One female remains in custody at Clonmel Garda Station, two were lodged to prison on arrest and the remaining five people have been released from Garda custody without charge. Files are being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution.

The investigation into organised criminal activity in the region remains ongoing.

"Operation Muster” commenced on 4th March 2014 and involved Gardaí from Tipperary, Kilkenny and Waterford supported by the Regional Support Unit with the assistance of Officers from Customs & Excise.

The operation targeted a specific organised crime gang operating in criminal activities namely burglaries across the above named counties. During the operation 42 residential premises were searched and an amount of property was seized, the property included jewellery and electronic equipment.
