Anti-Burglary Day Of Action - Interview Opportunities

Over 50 per cent of burglars enter homes either through the front or back door, according to the latest figures from An Garda Síochána. Work done by the Garda Síochána Analysis Service shows that the main entry points by burglars to houses are through a rear window (28%), front door (27%), and rear door (25%).

An Garda Síochána will tomorrow (March 12, 2014) publish further such analysis on burglaries as part of its National Crime Prevention Day of Action, which is promoting the range of measures that householders can take to secure their homes against the threat of burglary.

While the latest CSO figures show a 8.9% fall in the level of burglary and related offences between June 2012 and June 2013 compared to the previous 12 months, An Garda Síochána is advising people to remain vigilant and security conscious in order to thwart burglars.

Sgt Kelvin Courtney of the Garda National Crime Prevention Unit will be available at 11am on March 12, 2014 in the Dublin Metropolitan Region Offices, Harcourt Square, Dublin for interview opportunities on how people can protect their homes from burglary.

Please contact the Garda Press Office at pressoffice@garda.ie to request an interview with Sgt Courtney.
