Arrest following arson incidents Skibbereen, Co. Cork on the 20/1/14

Gardai in Skibbereen have arrested a male in his early 30’s following a number of incidents of arson in the Skibbereen area.

At approximately 5.15am this morning Gardai responded to a call relating to a number of cars on fire at the Fire Station in Skibbereen. On arrival they discovered 4 cars on fire inside the compound and 1 on fire outside. These cars were used for training purposes. Shortly afterwards, at approximately 5.30am, gardai went to an incident at a plant hire firm on Marsh Road in which a car and a caravan had been set on fire.
 

Gardai conducted a search of the surrounding area near Marsh Road and discovered a male in his 30’s hiding in a ditch nearby. He was arrested and brought to Skibbereen Garda Station where he was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
 

The male is scheduled to appear before Clonakilty District Court tomorrow morning (21.01.14) at 10.30am charged in relation to these arson incidents and other arson incidents in the Skibbereen area over the past 12 months.
