Traffic Safety Message for Christmas for Dublin 2014 - 19/12/14

Speaking at Dublin Castle this morning Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid, Traffic Division, Dublin Castle said, ‘With less than a week to go until Christmas, An Garda Síochána has repeated it’s message for motorists and all road users including vulnerable road users, i.e. pedestrians, pedal cyclists and motorcyclists, to stay safe and stay alive’.

With large numbers of people using the roads in the Dublin area for the Christmas holidays, this is a critical period for Road Safety.

Our Message is:

• Slow down and drive to the prevailing conditions

• Always pay attention

• Don’t drive while tired

• Always wear your seatbelt

• Don’t drive after drinking or if you have taken drugs

• Never text or use a mobile phone while driving

To date in 2014, there have been 271 Mandatory Alcohol Testing checkpoints carried out, with in excess of 10,000 drivers tested.

Always Remember:

It is not just your life at risk!
