Update - Fatal Shooting in Ballymun, Dublin on the 15/4/14

Gardaí are appealing for information following a fatal shooting incident in Ballymun on the 15th April 2014.

At approximately 8.45am 48-year-old John O’Regan from Ballymun was shot and fatally injured during an incident on Gateway Ave., Ballymun. Mr O’Regan was cycling along Gateway Ave when he was approached and shot a number of times by a lone male armed with a handgun. It is believed this male cycled along the footpath, approached and shot the deceased in the upper torso area before cycling away from the scene in the direction of Ballymun road. He was said to be wearing a baseball cap and high visibility jacket at the time of the incident. 

Mr O’Regan was taken by Ambulance to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was later removed to Tallaght Hospital where a post-mortem examination was carried out by the Deputy State Pathologist Dr.Curtis.

Gardaí have commenced a murder investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballymun Garda Station. An examination of the scene is ongoing and a liaison officer has been assigned to the family of the deceased.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Gateway Ave. and Ballymun Road at approximately 8.45am, this morning (15/4/2014), to contact them. They are particularly appealing to anyone who observed a male cyclist fitting the above description in and around the general area to come forward and contact the incident room.

Gardai in Ballymun are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Gateway Avenue, Ballymun, Dublin 11 at approximately 8.45am this morning.


A male in his 40’s was shot a number of times by a lone gunman who fled the scene.
 

The injured male was brought to the Mater Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to this shooting to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 6664400, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
