Incident Cork 18/04/14

Gardai in Cork have arrested two males in their 20’s following an incident in which a garda was injured this morning.

This morning before 8am a van which was reported as stolen and suspect for involvement in a number of burglaries overnight in the Cork area was observed in the Douglas area of Cork by gardai. The van then drove at speed through Cork City where it rammed a garda van and a number of other vehicles near Merchants Quay.

The suspect van drove out the Mallow Road where it rammed a Garda Motorcyclist. The injured garda was taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries described as non life threatening.

The suspect van was stopped near Blarney and two males in their 20’s arrested. A quantity of stolen property was also recovered from the van. The two males are currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
