Eight arrests following modified car rally (Operation Yard) in Kilrush, Co. Clare on the 2/4/14 - Charges

Gardaí investigating unofficial motoring events held in public and at night in the Co. Clare area, arrested eight (1 female & 7 males) people on the 2nd April 2014.

All eight were charged in connection with the incident and released on bail and will appear before Ennis District on the 23rd April 2014.

Gardaí investigating unofficial motoring events held in public and at night in the Co. Clare area have arrested eight people.

Gardaí in Co. Clare became aware of planned and organised events involving the drivers of modified cars and as a result an operation targeting these events was mounted.  

One such event was organised in the North Clare area on the night of the 7th March 2014 commencing on the promenade in Lahinch and attended by about 70 vehicles. The group made their way to the Cliffs of Moher continuing on to Doolin and on to Corkscrew Hill in Ballyvaughan where the main event occurred.  

As a result of intelligence gathered by Gardaí on the night of the event, searches were carried out by Gardaí this morning 2nd April 2014 at two houses in Co Clare.  Eight people in total have also been arrested at various locations in the county.  One woman and seven men all in their teens or twenties are detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Kilrush, Ennistymon, Ennis and Shannon Garda Stations.
