Armed robbery Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, 10th May 2013

Five males have been arrested by Gardai investigating an armed robbery at a Jewellery shop in Balbriggan earlier today (10/5/2013).

At approximately 5pm 4 males armed with hammers and wearing balaclavas entered a jewellery shop on Drogheda St., Balbriggan. They threatened staff and caused extensive damage to the store before escaping in a black coloured saloon car with a large quantity of jewellery.

During a follow up operation on the M1 motorway a short time later Gardai stopped and searched a Taxi and recovered a large amount of jewellery. The 5 occupants of the Taxi who are all male were arrested. The males, four aged in their late teens and one in his 40s, are currently detained at Ballymun, Coolock and Balbriggan Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, in connection with the investigation.

A black coloured saloon car believed to have been used in the incident was later found abandoned in Balbriggan area.
 
No one was physically injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
