Incident at Ballyvolane, Cork on the 11/3/12

Gardai have arrested a male following an incident in the Ballyvolane area of Cork at approximately 10pm on the 11/3/12

Gardai were alerted to a suspect device underneath a car which was parked in Mervue Lawn, Ballyvolane.  The area was sealed off and a number of houses were evacuated.  The Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team attended the scene and during the examination of the car an Army officer was injured and brought to Cork University Hospital.


A male in his 30’s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Mayfield Garda Station.


The residences were allowed to return home in the early hours of this morning. The car is due to be technically examined by Gardai this morning.
