The female killed in this morning’s fatal road traffic collision in Portumna is being named as 17 year old Claire Prendergast from Golden in Tipperary.
The road where the collision occurred has since re-opened.

Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision at Thornfield, Portumna, Co.Galway, at 11.25 a.m. on the 31st of October 2011. The crash involved two cars and a teenaged girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other female occupants of the same car were removed to University College Hospital Galway. There were four people in the second car two men and two children, their injuries are not known.
The road at the scene of the crash is closed pending an examination by forensic collision investigators.
