Drug seizure and arrests in Cork on the 13/10/11

The Garda National Drugs Unit, in conjunction with Revenue’s Customs Service and with assistance from Gardaí from Cork City and North Cork, Europol, Interpol and Dutch law enforcement agencies, are carrying out a strategic intelligence led investigation into an international drug trafficking gang.

As part of this investigation a 56 year old German national and a 45 year old Irish national were arrested at an industrial premises near Bartlemy, Fermoy Co. Cork at 4.15pm today, Thursday 13th October 2011, in possession of a substantial quantity of high quality Cocaine with an estimated potential street value in excess of  €5million - subject to analysis. The Cocaine was concealed in a consignment which had arrived in a container at Cork Port from Rotterdam.


In follow up searches two Irish nationals aged 42 and 65 were arrested in Dublin and a 46 year old Hungarian national was arrested in Cork.


All five are male and are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice ( Drug Trafficking ) Act 1996 at Cobh, Crumlin, Terenure and Middleton Garda Stations.
