Death of Garda Ciaran Jones

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan on hearing of the recovery of the body of Garda Ciaran Jones, Stepaside Garda Station, extended his sympathies to Ciarans family and colleagues on his sudden death.

 

Speaking at Garda Headquarters today the Commissioner paid tribute to Garda Jones for his service to An Garda Siochana and he described his death as a tragedy for Ciarans’ family and An Garda Siochana. Ciaran was a popular member of the "W” district (Blackrock, Dundrum and Stepaside) and a keen sports person who played Gaelic football for County Wicklow. Ciaran was a valued and highly regarded member of An Garda Siochana and his local community of Manor- Kilbride, Co. Wicklow.

 

Funeral arrangements are not yet available and an image of Ciaran in uniform will be made available at approximately 7.30 p.m.

 

Members of An Garda Siochana again wish to extend their thanks to all the individuals and agencies who took part in the recovery of Garda Jones remains including his colleagues, the local Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue team, the Defence Forces and Civil Defence, the Coast Guard and members of the public.  The commitment and dedication they showed in such hazardous conditions are deeply appreciated.
