Attempted Post Office Robbery at Balbriggan, Dublin on the 5/10/11

Gardaí at Balbriggan are investigating an attempted post office robbery in the town overnight.

A number of men entered a house in Swords (St Andrews Park) and held a man and a woman captive there.  The woman is a post office official and she went to the post office under duress this morning, Wednesday 5th October 2011.


The man had been removed from the house to an undisclosed location.


Gardaí became aware of the incident and responded to a call to the post office.  The attempted robbery was aborted and the man was released unharmed. 


No money was stolen.


Gardaí are appealing to members of the public for assistance.  Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity at the above two locations (St Andrews Park and Balbriggan Post Office) overnight or early this morning are asked to contact Gardaí at Balbriggan on 01 8020510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.


Suspicious activity at these 2 locations for a week prior to this attempt is also relevant.
